Boeing 727-200

The Boeing 727-200 is a three engined aircraft which is very suitable for extended operation over water.  It has also proven to be a very reliable aircraft.

Oxygen systems

Pneumatic systems

Surgical instruments

Theatre table

Lighting systems

Patient monitoring equipment

Recovery Room

Beds and linen

Patients

The 727-200 has ventral stairs (stairs that are underneath the tail).  This design will allow patients to enter the aircraft by front stairs and move toward the rear of the aircraft, and so assisting in maintaining a sterile environment and single direction flow.

Patients will undergo pre-surgery preparation in the front of the aircraft.

After surgery, a post-recovery ward will be used before transporting patients down the ventral stairs.  The ventral stairs are particularly suited to enable patients to be carried horizontally on a stretcher to ground-based care.

Self Sufficiency

The hold space of the aircraft will be used to transport larger items such as tents, cooking facilities, water sterilisation equipment, aircraft spares and other equipment that will enable the mission to be self-sufficient.  This is important so that missions are not reliant on local facilities or supplies.
